ESSAY
Describe the difference in Ray Bradbury's tone with regard to Clarisse & Beatty. Support your analysis with examples of Bradbury's diction and detail.

A society where the firemen start fires instead of putting them out, hooked on TV, books being illegal, and where individualism is a sin. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury's uses different tones between Clarisse and Beatty. As shown we can see that Clarisse is described as a girl who loves nature, who is interested into odd things and penetrates Montag with various question (Do you like your job? Are you happy?) Making him question his dissatisfaction of his life throughout the book. Whereas Beatty, the head honcho fireman is described as the man who knows more about books than anyone else and is seen as a bad human for doing his job.

Ray Bradbury introduces Clarisse as the curious girl. Her curiosity is what lured her into Montag, a fireman who enjoys burning books and homes. As he meets Clarisse he realizes that she is different from the others and thinks differently, it is why she always tends to question. However, through out the book Clarisse was a major impact to Montag's life as her constant questioning made him realize his dissatisfaction in life. Bradbury introduces Clarisse like this because as humans we tend to question many things in life.

On the other hand, Bradbury introduces Beatty as the guy who knows a lot about books. Compared to Clasrisse, Beatty is seen as the bad guy, the villain. Bradbury shows Beatty as the guy who follows the rules, not because he wishes to but because hes has to due to society. This shows us that we don't really know who Beatty actually is.

Ultametaly, Bradbury's tone towards each of the character show that they are very much different, yet they are important in changing Montags view of life.
