ESSAY
Describe the difference in Ray Bradbury's tone with regard to Clarisse & Beatty. Support your analysis with examples of Bradbury's diction and detail.

A society where the firemen start fires instead of putting them out, hooked on TV, books being illegal, and where individualism is a sin. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury's uses different tones between Clarisse and Beatty. As shown we can see that Clarisse is described as a girl who loves nature, who is interested into odd things and penetrates Montag with various question (Do you like your job? Are you happy?) Making him question his dissatisfaction of his life throughout the book. Whereas Beatty, the head honcho fireman is described as the man who knows more about books than anyone else and is seen as a bad human for doing his job.

Ray Bradbury introduces Clarisse as the curious girl. Her curiosity is what lured her into Montag, a fireman who enjoys burning books and homes. As he meets Clarisse he realizes that she is different from the others and thinks differently, it is why she always tends to question. However, through out the book Clarisse was a major impact to Montag's life as her constant questioning made him realize his dissatisfaction in life. Bradbury introduces Clarisse like this because as humans we tend to question many things in life.

On the other hand, Bradbury introduces Beatty as the guy who knows a lot about books. Compared to Clasrisse, Beatty is seen as the bad guy, the villain. Bradbury shows Beatty as the guy who follows the rules, not because he wishes to but because hes has to due to society. This shows us that we don't really know who Beatty actually is.

Ultametaly, Bradbury's tone towards each of the character show that they are very much different, yet they are important in changing Montags view of life.

PART 2 QUESTIONS ABOUT F451

1. In the scene where Mildred and Montag read books together, what are their separate reactions?
Between Mildred and Montag, they had separate reactions towards the book. Montag was fascinated with the book, and thought that maybe the book can answer all of his questions. The fact that the books didn't seem alive to her made her not interested in it.

The bombs flying over creates a suspense scene; war (outside conflict) and the question of mystery in the book (inside conflict.) In this society there is a worldwide crisis; war, but no one seems to care because they are too busy with the concern of happiness and technology such as television.

15 Questions I should be able to answer by this weekend
1.The novel Fahrenheit 451 begins : “It was a pleasure to burn.” Why does Ray
Bradbury start the novel in this way? Why might it be more pleasurable to burn books rather than read them?
- Well first of all it's a great way in catching a readers attention. And second of all, it sets the reader to know what kind of person we are dealing with in the book. Since it starts as the character burning books, we can tell that he has the pleasure in throwing kerosene filled flame throwers, and that its his job, although fireman's aren't meant to start fires but to get rid of fires and save kittens from a tree.

2. In the opening scene, why are the books compared to birds?
- Books are compared to birds because birds fly, they wonder off and see new things out int he world, and books they make many see things differently and sets ones thought which leads to creating ideas.

3. Discuss the difference between Montag and Clarisse’s lives.
- Clarisse is this happy girl who doesn't give too shits what people think about her. She's a curious person who always tends to question. Whereas Montag he is this person who is settled in an unhappy life and does the pleasure to burn books.

4. Montag’s television includes headphones called “seashells.”  The “wall to wall circuit” allows Mildred to enter the “play” and, therefore, the television programming. How does the technology within the novel compare to our current technology? In the first pages of the novel, does technology improve the quality of life for Montag and his wife, Mildred? Why or why not?
-No, the technology within the novel does not improve the quality of life for Montag and his wife Mildred because television is all Mildred does, is have her eyes glued to the television. In which creates this separation and lack of communication between Montag and his wife Mildred.

5. Why does the narrator introduce us to Montag at this time of his life, when he encounters Clarisse and confronts Mildred’s overdose?
- Well when montag encounters Clarisse she tends to question alot, like whether he's happy or not, which truly questions himself if he is happy. And then when Mildred overdosed herself, it shows that he's not happy with the way things are turning out in his life.

6. Why does the author introduce the character of Clarisse before Mildred?
-The author introduces the character Clarisse before Mildred because it shows the difference between a happy person and a sad person.

7. Why are all the houses fireproof in this society?
- All the houses in this society are fireproof because that's safety for them and the only thing that sets on fire are books.

15. Why does Montag feel “fat”?
- Montag feels "fat" because he is secretly hiding books in which this society he's not allowed to have.

MUSIC AS LITERATURE
Can we consider music to be literature? what is the difference between a novel, a poem, a rap, a song, an opera and a symphony?

Music is the vocal or instrumental sounds, or even both. That are combined in such a way that creates such beauty and expresses emotion. Whereas literature are written works. But between music and literature, they both tell a story. For instance "Bohemian Rhapsody" By Queen, tells a story about a young man who accidentally committed a crime and sold his soul to the devil. Music and literature both create sound and are put into writing. Between music and literature, they are both works of art. so yes, music is considered to be literature. The difference between a novel and rap, is that at novel is a narrative structure and story whereas a rap is a type of music that in which the words are told rapidly.
